I’ve been spending quite a bit of time in Adelaide recently, such a pretty city. I love that you can be in the centre of the CBD, and glance up to see the Adelaide hills, right there, so close.
The Central Market is fantastic, and I make sure I go there on each visit. It is right next to Chinatown, so I always make sure I’m there around lunchtime, I mean, how can you be that close to Chinatown and NOT have dumplings or soup noodle? Impossible!
The organic vegetables stalls, the wonderful bread and the irresistible cheese shops….I’m in heaven.
And when it’s time to hit the town and eat, I highly recommend Udaberri, in oh-so-hip Leigh St, in the CBD.
It’s a sexy little place, that makes the most sublime pintxos, I really think the best way to eat here is to try and sample as many little bits as possible. On a recent visit we had (both pictured) a fried quail egg on crostini with grilled chorizo, and some glorious octopus, plus warmed goat cheese, wonderful Jamon and cute little skewers of white anchovy, almond, pickles and olives
On the small plates theme, another fave is Melt, in King William Rd, I’ve only got one pic for you, because my partners in crime kept eating the food before I could grab a photo. This was an utterly delicious three bites of egg gribiche, with pesto and white anchovy, how I didn’t eat all 4 pieces I’ll never know!
We also had a hummus topped with spiced lamb mince, slow cooked brisket with jus, haloumi with pickled red onion, and green beans with garlic, chilli and anchovy.
Also worth a visit, particularly when the weather warms up, is 2KW, a fabulous rooftop bar (8th storey) overlooking the entertainment precinct and the Adelaide Oval; great views and great Negronis.
